The Battle of Altorus
Post 12 - The Tides Turn

Bridge, USS Tizona
1645 Hours, MD-02

The explosion that hit the Elyshan Striker-class was both massive and breathtaking. Everyone was caught up in the awesome power of it for a moment.

"Report!" Bathar barked, pulling everyone from their stupor.

Kyle was feeling a mixture of shock and glee. "Sir! The Striker's shields are down! They're open to attack!"

"Scans indicate a sudden of disruption of the subspace bubble. The effect has rendered our adversary open to attack," Tolac melodically added.

Meanwhile, on the USS Tigris...

"Son of a... looks like I have two direct hits but nothing happened... I think." Monroe looked over his console once more.

"Fire a single phaser at them," Joe said, taking a deep breath.

Suddenly, a beam of energy shot out from the Sovereign-class vessel and miraculously collided with the hull of the enemy ship.

"Direct hit to her hull sir, and I'm showing some damage!" Monroe announced with a smile.

"Target weapons and engines! Disable her, Mr. Willings!" Joe said as the crew cheered. "Mr. Cain tell the fleet the good word."

"Attention, all ships... their shields are down! Fire at will, fire at will!" Cain's order over the comm came with the visual of instant recognition as the fleet began firing everything they had.

And on the USS Frontier...

BLAST!!!

"Another one like that and we're toast," Jake called out over the noise of battle. "I'm barely able to hold her together as it is."  He gripped the edge of his console as another shot glanced off the hull.

John gritted his teeth and narrowed his eyes.  "There's only so much I can do with all of these torpedoes flying all over the place!"

"Commander, it's not looking good without a doubt. The shields are down to minimal levels. And everything I'm throwing at them might as well be space junk," Shade explained.

"Incoming message from the Fleet... they say to use the tri-cobalt devices on the frigates. Two each... 3/4 yield," Midnight turned and looked at Sara as she spoke.

Sara spoke, "Mr. Castillo, load Tri-Cobalt Torpedoes."

Shade grinned widely and took a moment to make the necessary changes. "Tri-cobalt Torpedoes loaded and ready to fire!"

A moment later, two flashes of white light flew out of the aft torpedo launchers of both the Frontier and the Carthage, striking the two pursuing frigates and blasting them askew.

Back on the Tizona...

"This is Rex Winship of the USS Tizona... the tricobalt device used by the Tigris has rendered the enemies shields down. Our science officer is reporting a bubbling effect on the subspace shielding created by real-space explosions.  Sending the data now!" Rex reported to the fleet’s captains as he took the data Lt. Tolac was sending him and forwarded it on.

"Bring us in, Ensign" Celezar barked at the helmsman. "Lt. Jones, please disable that ship. Let's not start a war."

"Aye aye, Commander," Jones replied, pleased to finally be able to do something with the ship's weapons.

As phasers lanshed out from the Excalibur-class starship, followed by a couple of torpedoes which flew through space in a way which looked lazy when compared to the phaser blasts, they impacted on various sections of the Elyshan ship, specifically targeted so as not to concentrate too much firepower in one place and blast a hole through the ship. As the torpedoes impacted towards the rear of the enemy ship, the glow from the engines flickered and died.

"Their weapons and engines are offline, Commander," Kyle reported, satisfied with the result.

Celezar allowed himself a brief moment to smile with pride. They had found a turning point. It was short lived, however, and he immediately turned to his sensor read outs. "Bring us in behind the Tethys. Let us do what we can to finish this."

And on the Bridge of the USS Tigris again...

"Got those freighters on the ropes sir! They're running!" Monroe stated.

"Ready two more torpedoes and target the others," Joe ordered.

More flashes of white light were followed immediately by cheers on the Bridge.

"Direct hits! Prepping phasers!"

Meanwhile, on the Tethys...

"Sir, we're running out of torpedoes pretty quickly," Earlond said. "I recommend finding a better way to hit these guys before we end up dry."

"Sir, our systems have taken some heavy damage. Navigation, long-range and short-range sensors are all offline. We have hull breaches on several decks, all sections. Phaser arrays 3, 4 and 7 are offline, as is torpedo launcher number 4. Our cloaking device is non-functional." Jennifer reported, reading off the list from her console. There were several other, more trivial systems effected, such as crew quarters, holodecks, and the gym, but they were hardly something to bring to the Commodore's attention during a fight. She knew that they were all thinking it, but she didn't want to tell the CO right up that the battle was going badly.

“We cannot allow the Ambassador to fall into Elyshan hands,” Iluvar replied, “We must continue to press.”  He knew it sounded suicidal, but a war would be far worse than the loss of their small force today.  They were close, he could feel it, but they needed something to tip the scales in their favor.

"The reports are coming in now..." started out Dancer as he spoke, "the USS Tigris states that the tri-cobalts are starting to puncture holes into the subspace shields...I believe this means that they can actually reach the hull through one of these dimples. It should be noted that tri-cobalt is one of the most power explosives known to the United Federation of Planets under conventional conditions."

"I doubt Tri-cobalt devices are going to do much against that battleship," Earlond warned.

"Despite that information, sir?" Dancer asked.

Then, moments later on the Frontier...

"Elyshan Frigates have lost their shields, and have temporarily lost movement," Shade said. "If we're rescuing that Shuttlecraft, now is the time."

Sara spoke, "Resume course, get that shuttle in the shuttle bay now!!!"

John glanced at the navigational sensors.  "I'll have you in tractor range in ten seconds, Commander!"

"Locking tractor beam," Jake said, hands dancing across his console, "There's a lot of interference... compensating..."  He suddenly let out a short cheer.  "Got them!" he exclaimed. "Pulling them in now!"
