Physical Description		Yoran is a typical human male, with a relatively normal frame and build. He?s fit, with defined but not overly muscular body. He has no facial hair, and does not wear any glasses. He does have contact lenses, to compensate for his bad vision. Yoran?s eyes are a light and bright shade of blue, and he has light brown hair, which he wears short and messy. Yoran?s nose is out of line to the left, being caused by several fractures and reconstructrions. Furthermore, the young male has a tattoo on the inside of his lower left arm, depicting his name in Korean character.

Personality & Traits

General Overview		Yoran is a person who could be described as very friendly. As a doctor, he puts interests from other people before his own most of the time. Futhermore, he works well in teams, and makes new friends with relative ease. To people who do not know Yoran very well, he can appear arrogant at times. This because of his quiet and self-confident attitude. Yoran is always loyal to his friends, and likes the company of having a friend around.
Strengths & Weaknesses		Yoran can be described as a clever person, with a very good memory. He does not like showing off with intelligence though, and therefore does not appear very smart. Furthermore, he is not the kind of person that learns easily, but more the problem-solver kind of person. Faced with scientific mysteries, he is often able to come up with innovative approaches. A useful skill for a doctor as well, leading to unconventional therapy approaches. Yoran likes helping out with problems outside the science and medical department as well. Next to these skills, Yoran has a good general knowledge and a very light sense of humour. He likes his colleagues to have a good sense of humour as well, but expects them to be serious when faced with work. Finally he observes the tenets of taekwon-do, intergrity, courtesy, self-control, perseverance and indomitable spirit. As weaker character traits, Yoran lacks patience, a trait often required within the science and medical departments. Next to this, he dislikes bureaucracy and unnecessary ethical rules and guidelines, getting in the way of medical science and experimental medical treatments. Yoran also has problems with keeping up hi paperwork, something he had his entire life. As a scientist, he already had problems keeping track of his own experiments. Some people would argue though, that these scientists are the most brilliant ones.
Ambitions		As a scientist, Yoran?s main field of interest was human biology and biomedical science. Even though he has an interest in fundamental science as well, he felt that the field of biomedical science gave him an actual chance to contribute to society and current health care methods. From a more ideological point of view, Yoran would have liked working on incurable diseases and researching new therapies. Initially assigned to the USS Pioneer as Chief Science Officer, Yoran focused his personal research on the use of viruses as vectors to cure genetic developmental diseases in humans, an area better known as gene therapy. As Chief Science, Yoran soon found out however that he did not have a chance to pursue personal research. After a few months, he decided for a career change to medical. He retained his scientific ambitions though. As for long-term ambitions, Yoran is still uncertain. A future in Starfleet, a career in command, or perhaps work in a specific scientific research facility. His current assignment and experience in Starfleet will help him make a definite choice for his future plans.
Hobbies & Interests		As a doctor, Yoran?s main hobby has to be his work, working long shifts isn?t a problem for him. Next to working, he likes reading scientific papers, and does some work as an reviewer for a scientific magazine. Apart from work, Yoran likes all Earth sports. He actively plays tennis for fun, and likes running for his condition. Yoran?s heart lies with the Korean martial art of taekwon-do though, in which he was trained since the age of eight, and likes to keep up his training to relax and remain fit at the same time.

Personal History		Yoran was born in Delft, in the year 2360, a small city in the Netherlands on Earth. Delft is a city with approximately 100,000 inhabitants, and an extensive history which dates back to the 17th and 18th century. It played an important role in the colonial trade and had extensive ties with the Dutch royal family. Furthermore, it is well known for its from origin Chinese porcelain with blue painting, known as ?Delfts Blauw.? Yoran grew p in Delft in a close and loving family, with his two working parents and three brothers. His father Martijn worked as a chemical technician in a commercial laboratory, his mother as an accountant in a financial advisory bureau. Yoran?s three brothers were all younger, Tim from 2361, Jeffrey from 2364, and Donny was adopted into the family in 2375, at age five, making him 8 years younger. Yoran?s family was also known as a very active one. His father played soccer and was an active long-distance runner, where his mother was a respectable tennis player. Yoran enjoyed tennis as well, but started with his main sport taekwon-do in the year 2368, together with Tim and Jeffrey. Both Yoran and Tim still practice taekwon-do today, opposed to Jeffrey, who switched to Karate after one year of taekwon-do training. Yoran does not only like taekwon-do for the physical benefits and ability to defend himself, he also pursues the mental benefits and enjoys studying ancient Asian history, with Korean history as a special interest. At age 11, in 2371, Yoran?s mother Corine suffered from a cardiovascular stroke. Even though she was in coma for 5 days, and on the intensive care department from Rotterdam Medical Centre for 3 weeks, his mother made a complete recovery. This event stirred up the family, and was shocking to Yoran and his brothers, and his father Martijn. However, this was Yoran?s first conscious contact with a health-care facility, where he realized that good health-care could save families from traumatic events. From this point on, Yoran was interested in pursuing a medical or scientific career. In 2372, Yoran went to high school in Rotterdam. He went to this school until he was 17 and chose specific courses to enable him to pursue a medical career. More specifically, he graduated in the courses English, Dutch, ancient Greek, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and History. During his years in high school, Yoran invested a lot of time in taekwon-do, and graduated for first degree black belt at age 15. He graduated at the same time as his brother Tim, and both were added to the Dutch national team. This was also the year that Yoran?s parents adopted Donny into the family. Donny was the only child of family friends from Yoran?s parents. Donny?s parents died in a accident, and without any other family, was adopted into the Russell family. At 16, Yoran participated in the junior Earth world championships taekwon-do in Pyongyang city, North-Korea. Both he and his one year younger brother Tim participated in the same category, leading to a face off in the semi-final. Yoran lost and was left with a third place, whereas Tim became junior world champion. At this point, Yoran new and youngest brother Donny decided to take up taekwon-do as well. Yoran often trained and coached his eight year younger brother. After his graduation from high school, Yoran applied and was accepted at Leiden university in 2378, starting his Master degree biomedical science education. Since Leiden was close to Rotterdam, Yoran decided to stay at his parental home. Only one year later, Tim graduated from high school and enrolled into Starfeet academy. He left home for San Francisco, leaving the rest of the family behind. This was hard for Yoran, who was very close to his brother. During his university years, Yoran went to taekwon-do training less often, leaving his competition years behind him, and invested more time in his study. He spent his spare time with friends and fellow studies, and continued training taekwon-do with Donny. Since he still had some spare time Yoran took a parttime job as research technician in the virology department of Leiden university. In 2381, Yoran?s other brother Jeffrey graduated from high school and started an education to become sports instructor. This was also the year were Donny graduated for his 1st degree black belt taekwon-do and was added to the Dutch national team. One year later, Yoran graduated from Leiden university for a Master of Science degree, with a major in infectious diseases and a minor in cardiology. Before graduation, Yoran had already decided that he wanted to pursue a career in Starfleet as well just like his brother Tim. He wanted to perform research not only on Earth, but wanted to perform exobiology an interspecies biology as well. Since Yoran already had an MSc degree, he was cleared from all science and medical courses in the academy, and was enrolled in a short one year course. Yoran left his home as well, leaving his parents and two brothers behind. This was difficult for Yoran, but he knew that the time to leave would come eventually. During his academy year, Yoran actively picked up taekwon-do again, and graduated for his 2nd degree black belt within months. On the academy, he was able to spent time with Tim again, who was of course also on the academy, and they were able to train together. After his 2nd degree graduation, Yoran accepted an invitation to teach self defence to first year cadets for 6 hours a week. In 2383, when Yoran was 23 years old, both he and Tim graduated from Starfleet Academy. Yoran as a scientist, Tim as a security officer. Yoran?s parents and the brothers came to the graduation, and Yoran and Tim were allowed to go home and spent some time with family before they were assigned their first assignment. At home, Yoran relaxed and spent a lot of time with his brothers. Tim was the first to receive his assignment. He was assigned to the USS Ajax, as assistant Chief of Security with the rank of Ensign. Yoran always hoped for an assignment on the same vessel, but the odds were minimal. In the same month, Yoran received a notice that he was assigned to the USS Pioneer, a newly commissioned intrepid class, as Chief Science Officer with the rank of Lt. (jg) and member of the senior staff. A high rank for a young and recently graduated officer, but Yoran always felt that he was up to the task. After a few months as Chief Science Officer, Yoran felt that he did not have a chance to pursue personal research within the Starfleet setting. Therefore, he decided to go back to Earth, and make a Starfleet career change to medical. This would take a 6 months crash course on the academy, because Yoran was already properly educated. Back on Earth, Yoran moved in with his parents again. Tim was still safely on the USS Ajax, Jeffrey had left home to live with his girlfriend, and Donny still lived at home, going to high school. In 2384, Yoran took the Hippocratic oath and was now officially a medical doctor. Shortly thereafter he was reassigned to the USS Pioneer, as the new Chief Medical Officer.
